Eligibility Requirements

To participate in sports at Royal Spring, your student must maintain acceptable levels of grades and behavior which include:

Academic Grades

RSMS rules as voted on by the SBDM:

- All students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 to participate in sports.

- All students must be passing all classes to participate in sports.

- Students who have one F are placed on probation and have one week to bring their grades up with no penalty. If after one week a the student still has an F, the student is ineligible to practice or compete for one week. The suspension will continue if all grades are not above an F at the end of the suspension week.

-For Summit Learning Communities, a student who has 3 or more reds in focus areas or an incomplete project will be placed on probation for one week.  If they still have 3 reds or an incomplete project after 1 week, they will be automatically suspended.

Bluegrass Conference rules for eligibility:

- If at any time a student has two or more F's they are immediately ineligible to participate in practice or competitions. (There is no probation period for a student with multiple F's).

Behavior

- Any student who has a discipline referral may be subject to Extra-Curricular penalty as well as their in-school penalty.

- Any student who is suspended from school is also suspended from all athletic events for the duration of the suspension and for the next competition.

- If your child is placed in AIM (Alternate Instructional Method) any week for a disciplinary action, they are not permitted to attend any Extra-Curricular activity outside the school day for 5 days. This includes: sports, tryouts, plays, clubs, homework helpers, etc. After 5 school days have passed, your child will be allowed to resume attending such events.

- If your child receives AIM 3 times in a 9-week grading period, they will be placed on an Extra-Curricular Probation for the remainder of the 9-week period. If disciplinary actions continue to be necessary the probation may continue through an additional 9-week grading period. The schools administration will hold a meeting with your student to discuss the possibility of removing the probation for the next nine weeks.

Attendance

- Students must be physically at school for at least half a school day to participate in an athletic event. Special circumstances may be approved by the schools administration prior to the event.

When we are out of school

- If there is a snow or weather school cancellation, practices can still be held is travel is deemed safe.  The administration makes that decision for RSMS. We typically try to make this decision by noon.  PRACTICES ABSOLUTELY CANNOT BE MANDATED ON THESE DAYS.

-Games held on days where school is canceled will be determined by administration from both schools.

Missing practice

- It is certainly appropriate for coaches to excuse absences from practice which would allow a student to miss a practice and still play in the next game. It would also be appropriate for a coach to sit a player out who has missed a practice that wasn't excused by him or her. Some coaches will excuse an athlete from practice if there is an emergency or conflict the coach feels is worthy is missing practice for.

- There are some natural consequences that could involve playing time (for example if the coach puts in a new play and the student who missed practice wasn't there to learn the play), but that would be a decision the coach is permitted to make based on what he or she feels is in the best interest of the team.
